چکیده
Paraulax Kieffer and Cecinothofagus Nieves-Aldrey & Liljeblad (Cynipidae: Paraulacini) were long supposed to be gall-makers on southern beeches ( Nothofagus , Nothofagaceae). Dissections of galls Blume, suggested that could instead either endoparasitoid or inquiline Aditrochus larva (Chalcidoidea). We sequenced the universal COI barcode Ultra-Conserved Elements (UCEs) from young larvae collected highlighted one them also contained DNA ibarrai Liljeblad. So far, when attributed dissected in early development stages they all only a single no remains other larvae. Conversely, was reared host observed inside larval chamber. Altogether, biological observations molecular results suggest is likely an Adritrochus . This result confirms tribe Paraulacini as being entomophagous supports hypothesis ancestral parasitoid lifestyle for Cynipoidea.

Lithonecrus papuanus Nieves-Aldrey & Butterill, a new genus and species of inquiline oak gall wasps (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Synergini), is described from material reared from galls on Lithocarpus celebicus (Miq.) Rehd., collected in Papua New Guinea. The new genus and species is the first record of a cynipid from Papua New Guinea and the whole Oceanian biogeographic region, and represents th...
متن کاملThe population biology of oak gall wasps (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae).
Oak gall wasps (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae, Cynipini) are characterized by possession of complex cyclically parthenogenetic life cycles and the ability to induce a wide diversity of highly complex species- and generation-specific galls on oaks and other Fagaceae. The galls support species-rich, closed communities of inquilines and parasitoids that have become a model system in community ecology. We...
متن کاملGall structure affects ecological associations of Dryocosmus kuriphilus (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae).
Gall wasps (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae) induce structures (galls) on their host plants that house developing wasps and provide them with protection from natural enemies. The Asian chestnut gall wasp, Dryocosmus kuriphilus Yasumatsu, is an invasive pest that is destructive to chestnut (Castanea spp.). An improved understanding of the interactions among D. kuriphilus, its host, and its natural enemie...

Barucynips panamensis Medianero & Nieves-Aldrey, a new genus and species of oak gallwasps (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Cynipini), is described from adults reared from galls on Quercus bumelioides in Panama. The new genus is taxonomically close to the recently described Coffeikokkos from Costa Rica, but differs from it and all of the described genera of Cynipini, by the shape and setation of the pro...
متن کاملPLANTÐINSECT INTERACTIONS Response of a Gall-Forming Guild (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae) to Stressed and Vigorous Prairie Roses
Two general hypotheses that describe the relationship between plant quality and host-plant preference of insect herbivores are the plant-stress and plant-vigor hypotheses. We examined the response of a gall-forming guild of insect herbivores associated with prairie rose, Rosa arkansana Porter (Rosaceae), to experimental manipulations of plant stress (addition of NaCl) and vigor (addition of nit...
